The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show may be considered the “sexiest night on TV,” but this year’s has proven to be a bit of a train wreck.
Airing Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, viewers will find multiple supermodels, including Gigi Hadid, missing from the runway after reportedly being denied Chinese visas, as well as rumored headliner Katy Perry after the singer was supposedly pulled at the last minute due to similar visa problems. To top it all off, a model fell on the runway in the middle of the taping of the show.
While the famed lingerie company was trying to be more inclusive to their new stores opening in Asia by choosing Shanghai, China as the blockbuster fashion show’s location, they clearly missed the mark.

Fashion-starlet Gigi Hadid was forced to join Russian models Irina Sharipova, Julia Belyakova, Kate Grigorieva, and Ukrainian model Dasha Khlystun in dropping out of the show when they were all reportedly denied visas. It has been speculated Hadid was denied her visa after posting an insensitive Instagram story where she appeared to mock Asian facial features. Hadid apologized on a Chinese social media site, but that may not have been enough.
Singer Katy Perry was also apparently on the no-visa hit list. Page Six reports Perry was pulled from headlining the event at the last minute when the Chinese government banned the pop star from entering the country indefinitely. Perry was initially granted a visa, but when China found out about a 2015 incident where the singer performed in a glittering sunflower dress in Taiwan, the government revoked her visa because at the time, the sunflower was used by anti-China protesters.
Despite the hiccups, Victoria’s Secret regulars still walked the runway, including Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Lily Aldridge, with Karlie Kloss returning after taking three years off. There were musical performances by Harry Styles and Miguel.
