A gunman fired multiple rounds at a ICE facility in Dallas early Wednesday, killing one and wounding several others before taking his own life, officials said.
The shooting, which took place shortly before 7 a.m., is being probed by the FBI as an “act of targeted violence,” special agent in charge Joe Rothrock told reporters at a press briefing.
No ICE agents were shot at or wounded in the Texas attack, officials said.
Rothrock said that early evidence the FBI has seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter “contain messages that are anti-ICE in nature.”

FBI Director Kash Patel shared an image on X that shows the message “ANTI ICE” inscribed into shell casings. He decried the attack as “politically motivated.”
“While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an idealogical motive behind this attack (see photo below),” Patel wrote. “One of the unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase ‘ANTI ICE.’ More updates will be forthcoming.”

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux told the press briefing that the department “learned that we had four individuals that were shot, two of them deceased, including the shooter.”
He added: “DPD quickly was able to locate the shooter who was deceased.”
Earlier, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said there were “multiple injuries and fatalities” and that the shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Dallas Police Department said Wednesday morning that two people were transported to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds, and that one victim died at the scene.
The shooter “opened fire at a government building from an adjacent building,” the department said on X, adding that officers responded to a call about the incident at 6:40 a.m.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told ABC News the shooter appeared “to be a sniper from an elevated position” and fired into the facility’s sally port area from “a couple hundred yards” away.
The gunman’s identity remains unknown.
The Dallas Police Department said an investigation is ongoing into the incident.
Detainees are usually processed at the Dallas ICE field office before they are moved to a long-term detention center.
ICE said the scene was secured shortly after 10 a.m. and that the gunman fired “indiscriminately at the building and those in the sallyport.”
On Aug. 25, a man was taken into custody after walking into the same Dallas ICE facility and claiming he had a bomb in his backpack, according to DHS.
