Melania Trump issued a rare statement Wednesday after a suspected terror attack killed 15 New Year’s Eve revelers in New Orleans in the early morning. The usually tight-lipped wife of Donald Trump, who will once again become the country’s first lady in three weeks, wrote that the cold-blooded slayings were “deeply concerning” and that “the brutality must stop.” The 54-year-old former model added: “My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the families who are experiencing such profound grief and loss. Let us strive for a future where peace prevails.” Melania’s statement was notably different than what her husband released himself earlier Wednesday, when he seized on an erroneous report by Fox News that tied the early-morning attack to failures at the U.S. southern border. The FBI has since revealed that multiple people are believed to be behind the attack and that the man who rammed dozens on New Orleans’ famous Bourbon Street is Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas native and U.S. Army veteran who carried an ISIS flag with him.
The incidents of violence that have impacted our communities are deeply concerning. The brutality must stop.
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the families who are experiencing such profound grief and loss.
