Prince Harry won more than $12 million in his blockbuster settlement with Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers, it was reported Wednesday. The figure has not been officially released but a source quoted by Reuters and described as being “familiar” with the detail said Harry’s damages payout was in excess of “eight figures.” Harry has long argued that the case was never about money, but accountability, and NGN’s first ever admission that The Sun used illegal methods to gather information is likely to have been a crucial factor in him accepting the deal. A statement read out in court said NGN offered a “full and unequivocal apology” for “serious intrusion” into his life and “unlawful activities” carried out by private investigators working for the paper. The paper also apologized for intruding into the private life of “Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother, in particular during his younger years.”
