Legendary Formula One driver and broadcaster Martin Brundle endured an embarrassing moment during an interview with the actor Hugh Grant at the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

Brundle, known for his grid walk, stopped Grant for a brief chat, asking the British star if he would be interested in another round of The Gentleman, a 2024 Netflix series created by Guy Ritchie.

“Are you doing another round of The Gentleman soon, because I really loved that?” Brundle asked.

Unfortunately for Brundle, Grant starred in Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, but did not appear in the TV show, something he pointed out to Brundle.

In the caper, Grant played a seedy private investigator called Fletcher. The story centers on an international drug dealer called Pearson, who is played by Matthew McConaughey.

“Well, I did the film of The Gentleman,” Grant, 67, who was standing next to Queen’s Brian May, explained, adding, “I haven’t seen the TV series.”

Flustered and running out of time, Brundle replied, “Oh right, it’s really good, you really must,” before informing the actor he was running out of time and had to cut the interview short. “I’ve got 10 seconds left for the national anthem. Good to see you on the grid,” he said.

This isn’t the reporter’s first on-air blunder for the iconic broadcaster, who mistook Lewis Capaldi’s brother for the “Someone You Loved” singer while reporting on the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix.

The awkward encounter went viral after Brundle, who eventually met the singer, unintentionally ignored his handshake, forcing Lewis to shake his own hand.

Grant was a guest of Ferrari at the race on Sunday, with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc taking out the top spot, beating British drivers George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris.

During the chat with Brundle, Love Actually and Four Weddings and a Funeral star Grant revealed he was a “big fan” of the luxury Italian automaker, which is now represented by Grant’s countryman, joint all-time F1 championship winner, Hamilton.

Meanwhile, season two of The Gentlemen is expected to drop on Netflix in the fall.
