Country musician Ronnie Bowman died Sunday in Tennessee from injuries he sustained during a motorcycle accident. Bowman, 64, crashed Saturday in Ashland City and was taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, his family said. “Ronnie was beloved by so many in our music community, whom he loved so dearly... and we are beyond grateful for all of the love & outpouring toward us already,” his wife, singer Garnet Imes Bowman, said in a statement. Bowman was best known for his bluegrass tunes and celebrated songwriting chops. The singer-songwriter was named Male Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 1995, 1998, and 1999. Bowman’s 1994 album Cold Virginia Night won Album of the Year and Song of the Year at the association’s annual awards ceremony. “We are shocked and heartbroken by the news of Ronnie Bowman’s passing. Another bluegrass legend gone far too soon,” the Association wrote on Facebook. The legendary songwriter also wrote for country artists such as Chris Stapleton and Kenny Chesney. Bowman co-wrote Stapleton’s 2015 hit “Nobody to Blame,” which won Song of the Year at the Country Music Awards. Bowman is survived by his wife and their daughter, Chassidy.

Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey had to suspend all departing flights following reports of smoke and fire at one of its air traffic control towers. The Federal Aviation Administration said the ground stop was in place until 8:30 a.m. ET after the tower was evacuated following reports of a “burning smell coming from an elevator,” early Monday morning. The FAA later confirmed there was no fire at the Newark airport tower, and the ground stop was later lifted. The incident was the second time that a major New York transport hub has been forced to suspend flights, causing major travel chaos on the East Coast. Late Sunday night, a plane collided with a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle on the runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, killing at least two people and injuring dozens more. The crash has forced the airport to suspend all arriving and departing flights until at least 2 p.m. ET Monday. The New York Police Department closed streets and highway exits leading into LaGuardia Airport following the deadly crash, which also left dozens of people injured.

A flight attendant on the Air Canada flight was ejected from the plane during the Sunday night crash at LaGuardia Airport that killed the two pilots and seriously injured several others. The unnamed attendant is alive and was found by rescuers still strapped to her jump seat, according to the New York Post. It’s unclear how severe her injuries are. The crash occurred Sunday night at approximately 11:47 p.m. when an Air Canada flight incoming from Montreal collided with a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle as it was responding to a separate incident on the runway. The attendant was one of four crew members and 72 passengers on Air Canada AC8646. The brutal collision immediately killed the two pilots manning the plane, and at least 41 people were sent to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. As of Monday morning, 32 of those people have been released. The two police officers inside the fire truck are being treated for broken bones and are among those considered seriously injured.

NHL reporter Jessi Pierce and her three children died on Saturday in a house fire in Minnesota. Pierce, 37, had posted photos of her family, including children Hudson, Cayden, and Avery, on social media the previous day. Fire crews responded at 5:26 a.m. Saturday after neighbors reported flames “coming through the roof of the house” and called 911. “Upon arrival, crews found a fully involved structure fire and immediately began fire suppression efforts,” the department said. “Crews were then able to locate an adult, three children and a dog inside of the house. Unfortunately, all were deceased.” Pierce had covered the Minnesota Wild as NHL.com correspondent for the past decade. Bill Price, vice president and editor in chief of NHL.com, said the team was devastated by the tragic loss. “Jessi’s love of her family and hockey was evident in the energy and passion she brought to her work for us. She was an absolute joy to talk to and work with. She will be deeply missed.” The Wild also mourned her loss on social media on Sunday, calling her “a kind, compassionate person that cared deeply about her family and those around her.” Michael Russo, a reporter for The Athletic, posted a heartfelt tribute on X sending wishes to her husband, Mike Hinrichs. “My heart breaks for Mike for the loss of his wife and children and Jessi’s family, friends and colleagues for this unimaginable loss,” he wrote. The cause of the fire is under investigation. A GoFundMe campaign for Hinrichs to cover funeral expenses has already raised over $60,000.

The U.S. Department of State issued an alert on Sunday advising Americans across the world to “exercise increased caution.” The advisory comes as the U.S. enters its fourth week of President Donald Trump’s war on Iran. The State Department cautioned Americans worldwide, “and especially in the Middle East,” to be wary of attacks made by groups linked to Iran, and to stay tuned to the guidance issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. “Periodic airspace closures may cause travel disruptions. Reacher star Alan Ritchson was allegedly involved in an altercation with his neighbor, TMZ reported on Sunday. The incident took place in Nashville on Sunday and allegedly began when a neighbor asked the actor to stop speeding and revving his motorbike engine, having been exposed to the actor’s antics the day before. The neighbor, who spoke to TMZ, said that their interaction quickly turned physical. He claimed that Ritchson punched him in the face and kicked him. He also alleged that the 43-year-old actor hit him in the back of the head, as well as hitting him “at least four times” while he was on the ground. While he did not go to the hospital, he was left with bruises and swelling, and reported the incident to the police, who told TMZ there is an investigation stemming from an incident between the pair but that no arrests have been made. The Daily Beast has contacted Ritchson’s representatives for comment. Ritchson is best known for his role as tough guy Jack Reacher in Prime Video’s action thriller series Reacher. The show was renewed for a fourth season in October 2024.
