Former NFL punter Kasey Redfern has died aged 35 after a debilitating battle with cancer. The father of two, who made four appearances in NFL games and debuted with the Detroit Lions in 2017, was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor and CNS lymphoma in 2023. On his 35th birthday on September 26, his wife, Lauryl, shared that he had been transferred into hospice care after he took a turn for the worse over the past few weeks. “Happy 35th birthday to my man, the love of my life, Kase Face!” she wrote. Lauryl shared that he had experienced “falls, extreme decline in short term memory, random throwing up, and some other things” likely “due to cognitive decline caused by neurotoxicity from all of the treatments he’s had over the last 3.5 years.” She added: “‘We know that healing will take place regardless of the outcome, but if he makes it to Heaven soon, he will have it better than the rest of us.” Redfern signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014 as an undrafted free agent from Wofford College and went on to spend time with six other NFL teams.

A former University of Kentucky cheerleader who pled guilty to killing her newborn son has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Laken Snelling, a member of her university’s competitive STUNT team, admitted to depriving her baby of oxygen and stuffing his dead body in a trash bag. Her roommates found the deceased newborn in her closet. The 22-year-old was charged with first-degree manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant. “I was under a lot of emotional stress and my baby came unexpectedly,” Snelling said in court. “And instead of helping him I ended his life and afterwards I cleaned up and didn’t tell anyone.” Snelling, who has been free on a $100,000 bond since her arrest last year, dropped out of school immediately following the charges.

Human remains found 36 years ago have finally been identified. Police in Southern California were on the scene of a car crash on Highway 33 in 1990 when they stumbled across partial remains some 60 feet away from the wreckage. Who they belonged to baffled investigators for more than three decades, but they’ve finally made a breakthrough. The woman they found has now been identified as mother of four, Patricia Diana Hunt Fielding, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said. “While her identity is now known, much about Patricia’s life and the circumstances surrounding her death remains a mystery,” police said. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office, and forensic genetic genealogy firm Othram reached the conclusion through a combined effort. “Investigators are hoping that sharing her name will help bring forward information about her life,” the sheriff’s office said. “Where she was before her remains were discovered, and what happened to her.” It added: “Even after decades, it’s never too late to help bring answers to a family and give a name back to someone who has waited far too long to be identified,” officials said.

Two hikers stranded for 36 hours in freezing conditions on Mount Shasta in northern California were rescued on Tuesday afternoon. The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said it received a distress call at 10:20 p.m. on Monday from a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman from Salt Lake City, Utah, who were freezing and unable to complete their descent. When they called, the hikers were at approximately 11,000 ft and had only planned for a day hike while their friend summited the mountain. They did not have adequate clothing, food, or water to safely wait out the night from their position, the sheriff’s office said, noting that temperatures on the mountain by this point in the night had plummeted to 14-16 degrees. They were told to continue their descent to stay warm, but their phones lost power after calling authorities at about 2 a.m. Tuesday to report their new position. Searchers located the missing hikers at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday. “Fortunately, both hikers were uninjured, and were ultimately able to climb out of the gulch with assistance,” the sheriff’s office said.

When it comes to cookware, few brands have earned as much credibility among professional chefs as Made In. Designed in collaboration with some of the world’s top culinary talent, the premium cookware company has become a staple in restaurant kitchens and home kitchens alike thanks to its professional-grade performance and heirloom-worthy construction. Whether it’s the brand’s award-winning Stainless Clad collection, its naturally seasoned Carbon Steel pans, or its convenient ceramic nonstick options, there’s a reason the brand has built a devoted following—for cooks and seasoned chefs alike.
If you’re looking to invest in new, non-toxic cookware staples before Thanksgiving and the holiday hosting season on the horizon, now’s the perfect time. Made In’s Clean Cooking collection is packed with clean cookware essentials that don’t leach chemicals into your food or stick to your dinner. The lineup brings the brand’s PFAS-tested, non-toxic cookware into one place, making it easy to upgrade your kitchen without sifting through products, reading every spec, and hoping for the best.

According to the brand, it’s the largest collection of independently tested clean cookware available, spanning everything from PTFE-free CeramiClad cookware and naturally seasoned carbon steel to stainless clad, cast iron, and enameled cast iron pieces. Each collection has undergone third-party testing for PFAS, lead, cadmium, BPA, and other common contaminants.
Plus, unlike many “clean” cookware options that prioritize safety at the expense of performance, Made In’s pieces are still engineered with serious cooking in mind. You can expect restaurant-quality heat distribution, durable materials built to last for years (if not decades), and thoughtful, chef-approved designs that make everyday cooking feel a little more elevated. Thanks to Made In, you no longer have to choose between avoiding toxic chemicals and a perfectly roasted bird. After all, you don’t need sides sticking to the pan while your turkey bakes and hungry guests wait. The holidays leave no time for cooking mistakes, and your pans’ performance is key to preventing catastrophes.
Three children, aged five, eight, and 11, and a teacher were killed during a Thursday shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. Police confirmed the shooting at a press conference on Thursday night, noting a child, seven, and a 54-year-old teacher were in critical condition. No names were immediately released. The 16-year-old male shooter was found dead inside the school when authorities arrived, with Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz confirming that a community member chased the assailant into the school and shot him. Police received a call in response to a shot fired into a car outside the school at 12:59 p.m., and were on the scene in minutes. The shooter forced his way into the school by “shooting at locked doors,” Krantz said during the conference. He confirmed the 16-year-old is a resident of Bend. Police do not know if the attacker attended the school or knew anyone there. Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek thanked the civilian who chased the shooter during a news conference on Thursday. “To the community member who heroically intervened to stop further loss of life: Your actions carry a heavy emotional burden, and I just want you to know that my thoughts are with you as well,” Kotek said.

Billy Joel, 77, says he does not know whether he will perform again after his neurologist told him that each show is “like you’re getting a concussion.” In a new Hollywood Reporter interview, the “Piano Man” singer said he is currently not allowed to drive or perform while he undergoes further testing. Joel disclosed in May 2025 that he had normal pressure hydrocephalus, a fluid buildup in the brain that can affect memory, movement, concentration, vision, and balance. The five-time Grammy winner had undergone surgery earlier that year and canceled all scheduled concerts after the diagnosis. “Rock and roll is loud, man,” he said, referring to the doctor’s reasoning. “[It] made me deaf already. So it’s the lighting, the sound, the stress of the show, the audience, the energy of the performance.” Joel also said he’s now auctioning off over 70 motorcycles, which he loved because they let him freely travel almost anonymously with goggles on. But he “doesn’t want to die like a bug on a windshield,” the singer joked. He has three daughters—8, 11, and 40—one with ex-wife model Christie Brinkley and two with his current wife, 44-year-old former Wall Street executive Alexis Roderick.
Delta Jet Faces Terrifying Close Call After Disputed Takeoff

A Delta regional jet narrowly avoided a potential collision at New York’s LaGuardia Airport after a business jet took off while the CRJ-900 was approaching to land, prompting an emergency go-around. The Oct. 7 incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m., with ABC7 New York reporting that the aircraft came within approximately 1,000 feet of each other, according to flight-tracking data. Delta confirmed its crew abandoned the landing to maintain safe separation, and the flight from Omaha later touched down without incident. No injuries were reported. Air traffic control audio appears to capture a dispute over whether the business jet had permission to depart. “I believe you were never cleared for takeoff, sir, I believe you were cleared to line up and wait,” a controller can be heard saying, while the pilot reportedly disagreed. The FAA is investigating the incident to establish what clearance was given and whether communication failures contributed to the near-miss.

Astronomers found the universe’s first star that glows “ghostly green,” according to a new study. Most stars come in shades determined by their temperature—usually blue, white, and orange. White dwarves—the dense cores left behind when larger, Sun-like stars die—were widely assumed to follow the same rule. But new research from the University of Warwick suggests some may actually shine in hues of green, pink, cyan, yellow, and purple. “It turns out these incredibly dense stars can produce colors nobody expected, and some of them genuinely surprised me,” study co-author Mark Hollands said in a statement. The stars’ ultra-dense atmospheres and trace elements can interact to create a wider range of colors visible to humans. Because white dwarfs are too far from Earth to see with the naked eye, scientists calculated their color from their spectra, or “fingerprints” of light split by wavelength. Researchers ran the spectra through a human-vision model to predict how they would look up close.

The couple announced the arrival of Philomena Carmine Bobby Pelphrey in an Instagram post on Wednesday. Cuoco, 40, revealed “Philo” was born on October 12. “There are no words to describe this feeling once again…. She also included her fiancé in the celebratory post, saying, “Life exploded the minute we met, and the gifts keep coming. Mike Tyson is embroiled in a $1.5 million court battle after he allegedly refused to teach a giant talking pigeon to box. Promoters for the online gambling brand Rabona are suing the heavyweight champion, claiming Tyson breached a 2024 sponsorship contract by pulling out of an advertising campaign. The canceled video would have shown Tyson, who raised pet pigeons as a child in New York, speaking with a presenter in a bird costume, teaching them some moves, and then playing casino games on Rabona’s website. But, according to the 60-year-old fighter’s wife, Lakiha Tyson, he pulled out because the “ridiculous” pigeon video would have made him “the butt of the joke.” Meanwhile, lawyers for Rabona’s promoter say the real dispute has nothing to do with pigeons; instead, they claim Tyson “simply lost interest” in the deal after a more lucrative exhibition match with YouTuber Jake Paul came along.
