A child has died of measles in New York for the first time in three decades, according to state officials. This comes as Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spearheads government efforts to change the official stance on immunization. “I am heartbroken to learn that a child in Lewis County has died after contracting measles,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul. She didn’t hesitate to link the death to changes at the federal level. “This is New York’s first measles-related death in 30 years, a devastating reminder of what’s at stake when Washington deliberately erodes decades of progress in protecting Americans from preventable illnesses,” she said. Immunization experts say U.S. rates have fallen below the required 95 percent needed to prevent outbreaks. This comes despite the domestic spread of the highly contagious virus being stopped in 2000. Three measles-associated deaths have been confirmed this year by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, despite higher numbers being reported by state and local officials. As of late October, the CDC had counted 4,588 measles cases nationwide so far this year.

Archaeologists in Romania have uncovered a remarkably preserved Roman-era sarcophagus containing what appears to be the grave goods of a young child. When researchers opened the wooden coffin inside, they found clay toys, including a rooster-shaped rattle, flower garlands and two protective amulets traditionally given to Roman boys. The burial is believed to date from the second or third century AD and was discovered near the ancient city of Tomis, in present-day Constanța. The Museum of National History and Archaeology Constanța said the sarcophagus’s intact condition and untouched grave goods offered rare insight into Roman burial customs. “Although we are still at the beginning of the documentation, we consider this discovery to be important, primarily due to the intact preservation of the sarcophagus,” the museum told Gizmodo. It added that the “untouched preservation of the funerary inventory [provides] precious information regarding Roman-era funerary practices in Tomis.”

Fall is officially here, which means shorter days, cooler weather, and criminally overrated pumpkin spice everything. As we inch closer to winter (and the holiday hosting season), it’s the perfect time to cozy up with a new blanket. Lola Blankets are indisputably the best on the market—designed from the softest faux fur fabric we’ve ever felt and machine-washable. Right now, the brand is offering a very generous 50 percent off deal to help us quell our post-summer blues during its early Black Friday sale. In addition to this rare sitewide sale, the brand is also offering free shipping on orders over $250. It’s a great opportunity to treat yourself or lock down the ultimate gift for the person on your list who swears they “don’t want anything.”

If you’re new to Lola Blankets, you cannot go wrong with the Original Lola, but we also love the XL size (it fits over a queen-size bed) and the weighted versions. Either way, it’s one of the brand’s biggest deals of the year, so if you’re looking for a luxury blanket for snuggle season, now’s the time to treat yourself. Helicopters Collide on Camera in Horrific Mount Everest Disaster
At least one person was killed and two other people were injured when two helicopters smashed into each other near Mount Everest in Nepal on Tuesday. Footage circulating on social media shows one chopper drifting into frame in a snowy basin as the second approaches from the left. The first then collides with the other aircraft’s rotors before hurtling to the ground in a smoking wreck. The clip ends with horrified onlookers running in to check on those who were on board. The helicopters are understood to have been transporting trekkers who had hiked up to the famed mountain’s base camp after heavy snow blocked the return route for much of the weekend. The weather cleared by late Sunday, but the aircraft remain the only way to help hikers off the mountain if the altitude and cold have left them too exhausted or sick to make the return journey on foot. Authorities have identified the deceased as a 47-year-old Indian tourist. A hiker from New Zealand and a pilot from Nepal are among the injured.
A professional soccer player has died after a horrific clash with an opposing goalkeeper. Striker Jesús de Miguel, 30, was playing for Spanish team CD Tenerife against Andorra on Monday when the tragedy happened, Reuters reported. During stoppage time, Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono raced out to intercept a long pass and hit De Miguel’s chest with his knee. The Madrid-born forward, who scored 11 goals last season after joining Tenerife in 2025 from Castellón, collapsed as teammates urgently called for medical help. The player received emergency treatment on the field before being taken to a hospital, while Owono was sent off and the game was abandoned. De Miguel’s condition deteriorated overnight, and his club confirmed his death Tuesday morning. Former Barcelona star Gerard Piqué, Andorra’s majority shareholder, paid tribute to the player, telling followers: “I am so deeply sorry. Rest in peace, Jesús.” Barcelona and Real Madrid also offered condolences. Spain’s soccer federation postponed Tuesday’s scheduled matches in tribute to de Miguel.

Matthew Wright, a longtime executive producer on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show,” has died at 52, his family announced in a GoFundMe campaign. He died on Oct. 30 while working remotely in Los Angeles. No immediate cause of death was provided by the family. His family has asked for financial support to transport him back to his home in New York and to hold a funeral. “If Matt has ever made you laugh, said an encouraging word right when you needed it, or ordered one too many appetizers for the enjoyment of the whole table, now is the time to repay the favor,” the GoFundMe read. “Please donate what you can and share this with anyone who’s been in the orbit of Matt’s huge heart. And when you’re at dinner and see a sunset, know that Matt is looking down, loving you, but wildly disappointed in what you ordered.” Degeneres, 68, donated $5,000 to the GoFundMe, according to TMZ. On Monday, she posted a mournful video, describing Wright as an “amazing guy,” who was adored by everyone involved with the show. She added that she and Wright were working on a joint project when he passed. “We’re gonna miss him. He is and always will be the glue to our entire family at the ‘Ellen Show,’” Degeneres said.

Mexican TV presenter Inés Gómez Mont, 43, known for proposing to Tom Brady in a wedding dress and veil at Super Bowl Media Day in 2008, was detained by ICE in Miami on October 30. The former TV Azteca and Televisa presenter and mother of six, wanted in Mexico on financial-crime allegations, was photographed in handcuffs. Mexican investigators allege that a network involving Gómez Mont and her lawyer husband, Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, used shell companies, sham contracts, and false invoices to divert roughly $160 million from Mexico’s Interior Ministry and launder the proceeds. Álvarez Puga, nicknamed the “King of the Invoice Mills,” is accused of masterminding the operation. The couple reportedly fled Mexico in 2021 before ICE detained Álvarez Puga in Miami on September 24, 2025, over immigration irregularities. He was later released on bond, and his current whereabouts are unknown. Gómez Mont remains in immigration custody while Mexico pursues extradition. She has denied her and her husband’s wrongdoing to her 2.5 million Instagram followers. “I repeat and stand by it: I am innocent, and this is an injustice,” she wrote. “They want to shut me up, but I will continue to raise my voice with all my might.”

A British adventurer has finally walked home after spending 28 years trekking 31,000 miles across four continents in an extraordinary bid to circle the globe. Karl Bushby, 57, was greeted by his emotional mother, Angela, and a cheering crowd outside her home in Hull on Monday—the same house he left as a 29-year-old former paratrooper in 1998. His journey took him through 30 countries, across frozen terrain and perilous jungles, and even involved 18 days in prison in Panama, as well as swimming across the Caspian Sea and the English Channel to avoid motorized transport. Bushby originally thought the challenge might take 12 years. Instead, visa battles, harsh weather and brushes with danger stretched it to nearly three decades. “They say it takes a village but literally it took a world to get me here,” he said, thanking the strangers who helped him along the way. He now plans to reunite with family, including meeting his son Adam, who saw him only a few times during his 28-year journey, and to meet his 12-year-old granddaughter for the first time.

The exes of scandal-hit TV anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have walked down the aisle themselves. Melrose Place actor Andrew Shue, 59, and Marilee Fiebig, 49, got married Sunday, weeks after their ex-spouses also tied the knot. Shue was previously married to Robach when it was revealed in 2022 that the 53-year-old was involved in an affair with her GMA3 co-anchor T. J. Holmes, 49, who was married at the time to Fiebig. The scandal cost the GMA3 co-anchors their jobs and brought both marriages, each spanning more than a decade, to an end. Robach and Holmes married in September, making it the third trip down the aisle for each. Now their former spouses have followed suit. “I don’t know how it happened, but there’s a happy ending,” Shue told People. Fiebig, an immigration attorney, and Shue held a private ceremony at their New Jersey farm with close family and friends, according to the groom’s sister, actress Elisabeth Shue.

If you (or your partner) snore at night, you know how disruptive it can be to getting a good night’s sleep. While plenty of over-the-counter remedies promise to silence snoring, from nasal strips to specialty pillows, anti-snoring mouthguards can be an effective, drug-free option for certain types of snoring. These devices work by gently positioning the lower jaw forward to help keep the upper airway open during sleep, reducing the vibrations that cause snoring in the first place.
GoodSleepCo’s Hushd Avera Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece is a doctor-designed, adjustable mouthguard with two settings, allowing users to find a more personalized balance of comfort and support. Unlike one-size-fits-all mouthguards, the Hushd Avera is designed to mold to the user’s teeth at home in approximately two minutes—no trip to the dentist required.

The customizable mouthpiece is made from medical-grade, BPA-free, latex-free, and phthalate-free materials and includes three arches designed to accommodate different fits. Its adjustable design also allows users to fine-tune the positioning of their jaw rather than committing to a single setting, which makes it easier to find a comfortable fit.
Of course, not all snoring is created equal, and an anti-snoring mouthguard isn’t a universal fix—especially for those with underlying conditions like obstructive sleep apnea. But for those dealing with uncomplicated snoring, a customizable oral mouthpiece may be the ticket to a better night’s sleep. Plus, you can currently score 25 percent off the Hushd Avera for a limited time. Use the code SNORE25 at checkout to redeem.

An ambulance driver who got lost while driving a patient to a Cleveland hospital decided to abandon the patient and take an Uber home. The driver worked for the private ambulance company Lynx EMS, and was en route to the Cleveland Clinic when they ditched the journey. A local Cleveland EMS unit responded, treated the patient, and took them to the hospital. “Upon becoming aware of the situation, immediate steps were taken to address the matter and ensure the patient’s well-being and care needs were addressed,” a spokesperson for Lynx EMS told local media. “We are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and will take appropriate action based on the findings of that review. As this involves personnel and patient related matters, we are unable to comment further.” The local rescue employees union posted, “We want to clarify it was NOT a Cleveland EMS ambulance, but rather a provider working on a private ambulance. Once that provider left, Cleveland EMS responded to the scene, administered care, and transported the patient to the hospital.”

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued an 86-year old sailor and his dog off the California coast more than two months after they went missing. The pair left Oregon for American Samoa, 5000 miles away, but no one had heard from him since August 20. The Coast Guard said it received a report that the man was overdue at this destination on October 24, then received an emergency distress signal from his vessel, and set out to find him. A Coast Guard plane located the man’s sailboat around 460 miles off the coast of San Diego with a damaged sail, but bad weather meant they couldn’t immediately rescue them. The next day, the sailor and his dog were winched to safety and flown back to the mainland. The man was taken to the hospital for medical checks, but was uninjured. “When emergency medical personnel were able to evaluate the mariner, he was weak and had difficulty walking, but no major injuries,” the Coast Guard told The California Post.
